Starting a new school can feel overwhelming. Whether you’re just beginning college or finishing your degree as a transfer student, Warner Pacific believes a committed community will empower you to reach your goals.

Our First-Year and Transfer Learning Communities are cohort-style courses designed to make sure that each student has a smooth transition to college and is engaged academically, spiritually, and socially.

By developing authentic social support and strong study skills, Warner Pacific Learning Communities provide a greater sense of belonging which leads to increased academic success, deeper personal relationships, and the persistence needed to graduate.

The City is Your Classroom

Through a set of three linked core classes over your first year at Warner Pacific, students are invited to connect learning with context and be curious about the world around them.

By experiencing Portland’s neighborhoods and culture through hands-on learning and service, Learning Communities invite students to broaden their understanding of where learning and teaching happen. Sometimes the best lessons come from:

  • Graffiti removal/abatement
  • Visiting with a Portland Commissioner
  • Serving in a community garden
  • Sharing meals together

In each Learning Community, students explore questions of justice, equity, and access and discover how their education can make a difference in their communities.

Our dedicated faculty and upper-class peer mentors are committed to helping students succeed from their very first day on campus. In the end, we believe Learning Communities establish a life-long curiosity about self, others, and responsibility in the world.
